It ain’t over till….

As Lewis Hamilton just proved, nothing’s done, until it’s done and whilst most people in sport will today be focussing on the events in Brazil, I am still absolutely stunned with what happened earlier at Pride Park.

Forest v Derby games don’t normally get a lot of press attention outside of the area (unless they’re being shown on TV) so it’s difficult to put into words what the game means.  Put it this way, no matter what the result, Rolls Royce n Derby gets far less work done the day after the East Midlands rivals meet than on any other day.

Today wasn’t a typical game between the clubs, it wasn’t that good and with 90 minutes gone everyone had settled for the draw.  Except, it seems the ref.  Having already sent off (harshly) one Forest player, he then cancels out a Derby goal and awards them a penalty, and then cancels another Derby goal for, well, no reason whatsoever.

After this, Forest came away with the ball and had Forest scored (which they nearly did) there’d have been a riot.  Had that goal then been cancelled (which I think it would have been ass the ref was still at the other end of the pitch) there would have been carnage.

We’re supposed to be respecting refs this year.  The guy on the pitch today couldn’t have been more out of his depth and it will be talked about, in these parts anyway, for an awful long time.
